Find a Family Doctor/General Practitioner in
Ireland
The Irish College of General Practitioners publishes a
searchable list of GP's, which can be found on their website with additional practice information for many of the
listed doctors. This is well worth a look as it will probably help you find a family doctor in your
area.
The Irish Medical Council
The Irish Medical
Council regulates how doctors practise
medicine in the Republic of Ireland. Its statutory role, as outlined in the Medical Practitioners Act 2007, is to
protect the Irish public by promoting and better ensuring high standards of professional conduct and
professional education, training and competence among registered medical doctors. It maintains a
‘Register of Medical Practitioners’, a register of all medical doctors legally entitled to work in
Ireland which can be searched at the link above, it ensures high standards of medical education and training, it
sets standards for the maintenance of professional competence, and promotes good medical practice and
investigating complaints against medical
doctors. According to the Irish Medical Council's website in July 2010 there were a total of 19,083 doctors
registered with the Medical Council. There is also information on other aspects of the Council's
work,
such as how to make a complaint.
