Facts & Figures
- Diseases of the heart and circulatory system (cardiovascular disease or CVD) are the main cause of death in Europe: accounting for over 4.35 million deaths each year.1
- Nearly half (49%) of all deaths in Europe are from CVD (55% of deaths in women and 43% deaths in Men).1
- Just under half of all deaths from CVD are from CHD (Coronary Heart Disease) and nearly a third are from stroke.1
- In Europe around one in six men (17%) and over one in seven women (16%) die from coronary heart disease.1
- Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is one of the biggest killers in Ireland, accounting for 36% of all deaths.2
